Tonight is the first session of my fall class. A lot of folks have asked me how school is going so far. I took one class during a compressed summer session, which ended about three weeks ago. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, but I definitely underestimated how difficult it would be to work full time and go to school. I knew I would enjoy the class but I didn't account for how tired my brain would be on days where I had to work a full day and then come home and do multiple hours of homework. The brain can only handle so much in one day. I think the fact that my class only had three students in it (including me) made it more difficult because I really couldn't show up under-prepared or take it easy...there wasn't a big group to carry the discussions.
My class this semester is not compressed so it should be a bit more manageable. Although I just looked at the syllabus and it sounds like the assignments are pretty demanding.....either way, I'll figure it out. The class size should be much bigger this time, so it'll be interesting to see what that's like. Will they welcome me with open arms or treat me like the token older student? It feels very different to be on a college campus as a working adult than it did being a full-time student ten years ago. I feel like an interloper.
Anyway, if I learn anything super interesting in this class I will be sure to post it here.
